What is a Static Var Generator?

A Static Var Generator (SVG) is a power electronics-based device. Its primary function is to instantly and precisely meet the reactive power needs of the grid. Compared to traditional capacitor and reactor groups, it responds much faster and provides compensation with high accuracy.

The SVG's operating principle is its ability to instantly supply capacitive or inductive reactive power to the grid thanks to IGBT-based inverter technology. This corrects the power factor, minimizes voltage fluctuations, and increases system stability.

 Features

It compensates for inductive and capacitive reactive power in less than 15 milliseconds. It maximizes energy efficiency by always maintaining a power factor of 0.99. Its compact design makes installation easy. Thanks to its high-density design, it uses 70% less space than traditional systems. It provides balance in three-phase systems. It has an operating capacity between 220 V and 480 V. It can be paralleled with another device operating at 480V to 1000V. It can be used in various application areas, from industrial facilities to commercial buildings. The device provides efficiency exceeding 97% while keeping thermal losses below 3%. Thanks to its modular structure, it can be easily expanded and maintained.

 Advantages of Static Var Generator

  • High Response Speed: Responds to dynamic load changes within milliseconds.

  • Continuous Compensation: No tap transitions as with classic capacitors.

  • Precise Power Factor Control: Prevents penalties by keeping the power factor very close to 1.

  • Harmonic Filtering: Protects sensitive equipment by reducing the THD ratio.

  • Energy Efficiency: Low loss, long lifespan, and low maintenance requirements.

  • Flexible Use: Applicable in industrial facilities, commercial buildings, data centers, and renewable energy power plants.

 Application Areas

Static Var Generators are preferred, especially in environments where dynamic load changes are frequent:

  • Steel and rolling mills

  • Cabinet motor drive applications

  • Welding machines and arc furnaces

  • Petrochemical plants

  • Wind and solar power plants (SPP & WPP)

  • Facilities using sensitive electronic devices

SVG offers a reliable and efficient solution in modern energy systems. Its compact structure, high performance, and flexible application areas usher in a new era in energy management. Choose SVG to take your systems into the future.
