An open delta transformer is a special type of transformer connection normally used to supply a two-phase or single-phase load in a three-phase system. However, the "3-phase input, 1-phase output" configuration has a slightly more specific application area.
The main uses of this configuration are as follows:
Feeding Unbalanced Loads:
•In a three-phase system, loads may not always be evenly distributed. In this case, an open delta transformer can be used to supply unbalanced loads as a single-phase supply.
•Unbalanced loads such as motors or heaters of different sizes are frequently encountered, especially in industrial facilities.
•It is preferred in solar power plant applications to supply single-phase loads such as outdoor lighting, camera systems, and security containers.
Backup Systems:
•In case of a problem with the main power supply, an open delta transformer can be used as a backup power supply. For example, if a factory's main transformer fails, critical loads can continue to be supplied by an open-delta transformer.
Flexibility:
•In applications requiring low power, an open delta transformer can be a more economical solution.
Advantages of a 3-Phase Input, 1-Phase Output Open Delta Transformer:
•Simplicity: Connection is simpler compared to other connection types.
•Flexibility: In the event of a transformer failure in the system, the system can continue to operate.
•Suitability for Unbalanced Loads: Effective for supplying unbalanced loads. The transformer input reduces current imbalance by 50% across all three phases
Manufactured with input and output voltage values up to 1100 V, additional input-output voltages can be added according to customer demand.
To ensure there are no defects in the products, the technical specifications for Open Delta transformers listed below are determined in consultation with the customer. After all details are finalized, a sample transformer is produced and delivered to the customer along with routine test reports. Following all checks and customer approval, production is completed, and the products are delivered.
•Nominal power
•Input-output voltage levels
•Output current values
•Input-output terminal connection materials
•Insulation class
•Metal cabinet and ventilation type
•Mounting type (horizontal-vertical)
OMSAN can produce dry-type LV three-phase 3-phase input, 1-phase output transformers up to 40 kVA power rating. Transformers, which can also be produced with cabinets according to requirements, can have input-output connections made via rail terminals, device terminals, SKP lugs, cables, or busbars.
